HISTORY

Galkayo Medical Center (GMC) is the first multi-specialty hospital in Galkayo, Somalia, with a 150-bed capacity offering multi-disciplinary healthcare services. It stands as one of Somalia’s premier healthcare providers, bringing together an excellent team of doctors from various specialties.

Founded in 1994, GMC was established to meet the urgent need for quality healthcare in Mudug and surrounding regions. Staying true to its culture and tradition, the hospital has expanded access to modern medical care and advanced technologies that were once limited to major urban centers. Today, GMC serves not only Galkayo city but also rural communities, which make up more than 70% of the local population.

Guided by the Galkayo Medical Foundation (GMF) vision of “a progressive and sustainable Somalia, where all people live peacefully with dignity, enjoying social, political, and economic equality,” GMC’s mission is to deliver free and affordable medical services to displaced, vulnerable, and disadvantaged communities in Puntland and Central Somalia.
